Player letter 1
“Even broken in spirit as he is, no one can feel more deeply than he does the beauties of nature. The starry sky, the sea, and every sight afforded by these wonderful regions, seems still to have the power of elevating his soul from earth. Such a man has a double existence: he may suffer misery, and be overwhelmed by disappointments; yet, when he has retired into himself, he will be like a celestial spirit that has a halo around him, within whose circle no grief or folly ventures.” ~ Mary Shelley, Frankenstein
Greetings wonderful players!
We hope this letter finds you well and that, where-so-ever you may be, that you finally have a spring that is the real spring, and not the precursor to some dismal year without a summer.
In this letter we will provide you with a link to the character descriptions, our social media space, some dates for optional watch parties for Ken Russel’s movie, Gothic, The Mary Shelly movie, and Frankenstein, and a link to a questionnaire about themes you wish to avoid in play.
Character Biographies
We are planning a second playtest for the larp at the end of July. We’ll release the full character sheets for the poets and the servants after this iteration, but in the meantime you can read a little more about the lives of the five poets who will be present in the villa here.*
Social Media Space
We have reluctantly settled on Facebook as a Social Media space for this larp. You can join the group here*. As the Facebook algorithm will not necessarily show you content posted there, we recommend you check it on a regular basis. All essential information will always be sent out via email and put on the website.
Optional Watch Parties
Assuming you have access to these movies on a streaming platform, DVD, or other means, we’d like to invite you to one or more of a series of watch parties. Here we will all start the movie at the same time, and we’ll run a back channel for conversation about what we are all seeing on the screen. All screenings will start at 8PM CEST.
- Saturday June 10th – Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994)
- Friday July 7th – Gothic (1986)
- Friday August 4th – Mary Shelley (2017)
Restricted Themes Questionnaire
Finally, if there are any topics or themes that you would prefer did not come up during the larp, please can you complete the form* to let us know.
Next Letter
Our next player letter will come out on or before August 13th. This will include the full character sheets, a schedule for the larp, a description of the meta techniques, and any other updates we need to give you.
Please remember that – if you haven’t paid the full balance – the deadline to complete your payment for Gothic is July 1st.
With fondest regards,
Avalon larp studio
